Dr. Tavakoli: The Medical Council Should Become a Source for Facilitating Physicians’ Business by Conveying Problems to the Governance

The President of Iran University of Medical Sciences emphasized the necessity of eliminating the direct financial relationship between physicians and patients and the proper implementation of the role of insurance organizations. He said: “The most important duty of the Medical Council in the 14th administration is to convey problems and expert solutions to the governance to facilitate the business environment for the medical community.”

According to the Public Relations department of Iran University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Nader Tavakoli said on the live program “Keshik Salamat” (Health Watch) on the Salamat (Health) Network: “In the pathology of the health system, there are several issues; first, in advanced countries, there is no direct financial relationship between physician and patient, and insurance organizations handle this matter.”

Stating that another issue is the cost price of services, where the patient’s and insurers’ shares must be clarified, he added: “Currently, insurance and payment problems lead to dissatisfaction in service delivery to the people.”

The President of Iran University of Medical Sciences also noted: “The important point is the Medical Council’s role in conveying problems and expert solutions to the governance to solve the people’s problems.”

He said: “The Medical Council in the 14th administration must pursue a hope-inspiring outlook. By involving young physicians and scientific associations, we must identify and enumerate the profession’s problems and become a source of change and reform in laws to facilitate the business environment.”

Tavakoli emphasized: “The Medical Council is not political, factional, or partisan. To resolve the members’ problems, we must be able to convey the issues to the governance and the administration, and we now have this unique opportunity.”

Stating that medical Olympiad winners should be utilized, he added: “The residency period must be made attractive for young physicians, and the first step is securing the residents’ livelihood. We at Iran University of Medical Sciences have started this action, and the Medical Council can certainly be effective in this area through its residency workgroup.”

The President of Iran University of Medical Sciences concluded by emphasizing: “The cooperation of the President (of the Medical Council) with the Supreme Council is necessary for the success of the Medical Council.”
